In 2019, TechnologyOne conducted a study with 1,026 current UK undergraduate and postgraduate students about what they want out of their university experience.

The research revealed that students are most concerned with a trustworthy, consistent digital information flow from their university.

Listen to your students

A panel of experts including TechnologyOne Industry Director - Education and La Trobe University Adjunct Professor Peter Nikoletatos, QUT Associate Director Student Systems Simon Wilkinson, La Trobe University Chief Technology Officer Stuart Hildyard and 2017 University of Queensland Graduate Breeanna Jope discussed the issues facing students and universities today.

Professor Nikoletatos kicked off, declaring that according to new research conducted by TechnologyOne, there’s a new type of student emerging: one who has a desire for more blended learning experiences.

QUT’s Wilkinson agreed, commenting: “The changing landscape is a real demand from students to go online - for administration, for courses, for the entire university experience.”

La Trobe’s Hildyard countered that there’s is still a demand from students for on-campus learning.

“Even though they want access to everything online, students still want to enjoy an on-campus experience,” Hildyard said. “So we need to leverage technology to enhance that experience, as well as to allow off-campus/blended learning.”

From the lens of the student, Jope said the desire for a blended learning experience was necessitated from the demands of today’s workforce.

“When you enter the workforce, you need to differentiate yourself. To do that, you need experience - and you need to get that real workforce experience while you’re studying,” Jope said.

“So for me, that’s what is driving that need for a blended university experience. It’s no longer realistic to go to uni full time and not work and expect that the prestige of your degree or university will be enough to get a competitive job when you graduate.

“My time on campus was amazing and I wouldn’t want to completely replace that human interaction, teaching experience. It’s still very special and really resonates with me.

“If I had unlimited free time, I probably would spend it all on campus. But the reality is that I don’t have time to do that - and universities need to cater to that.”

As told by customers: how DXP is driving innovation

TechnologyOne Group Director - Customer Success, Ben Malpass, was joined by Noosa Shire Council and Clean Energy Finance Corporation to demonstrate how TechnologyOne is driving customer-first innovation.

“Over TechnologyOne’s 32 years, we’ve had a long history of working alongside customers to successfully build and re-develop software that is truly transformational.”

“A major part of our customer success focus is making sure our customers’ voice is at the center of our decision making and product evolution. That’s exactly what we’re doing with our latest innovation, DXP.”

Noosa Shire Council described how it has worked alongside TechnologyOne to develop DXP meetings, which will simplify its meeting process and provide a simple and seamless mobile experience.

“TechnologyOne has taken our direct feedback on the product over the last 12 months to enhance the DXP experience to ensure it meets our needs,” the council said.

Meanwhile, Clean Energy Finance Corporation discussed its journey with DXP Expenses.

“We wanted something that would not only simplify the process for our casual users, but would integrate with our backend, so we turned to TechnologyOne to discuss how we could leverage our existing investment,” the corporation said.

“The collaborative experience we’ve had in developing this app has been a key differentiator with TechnologyOne versus other ERP solution providers, because we have the opportunity to work with the people who develop the code, through to those that deploy the solution.”
